Italian Tourist Hotspot Replaced By 'Paddling Pool' - Locals Mock 'Crazy Idea'
Locals in the Italian town of Grado have reacted with dismay after a popular tourist beach was replaced with a small paddling pool.
The town council decided to make the change in order to attract more families with young children. However, locals have branded the new paddling pool a "crazy idea" and it has been met with widespread ridicule.
One local resident, who asked not to be named, said: "This is a joke, isn't it? Who on earth would want to come to Grado for a paddling pool?"
Another resident said: "The council has completely lost the plot. This is a tourist town and people come here for the beach. They're not going to be happy when they see this." A spokesperson for the town council said: "We understand that some people may be disappointed with the new paddling pool. However, we believe that it will be a positive addition to the town and will attract more families with young children."
The paddling pool is located on the beach in front of the Hotel Savoy. It is about 10 meters long and 5 meters wide.
The cost of the paddling pool was €100,000.
The town council said that the paddling pool will be open from 9am to 7pm every day. It will be supervised by a lifeguard.
It is not yet known how the paddling pool will be received by tourists. However, locals have already taken to social media to express their disapproval.
