Bayer 04 Leverkusen: Why Stuttgart leaves Xabi Alonso frustrated
Xabi Alonso has described how VfB Stuttgart has been a source of frustration for his Bayer 04 Leverkusen side during his tenure as coach
Bayer 04 Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso has noted his side's struggles against VfB Stuttgart, describing the fixture as a constant source of frustration.
Leverkusen has failed to defeat Stuttgart in their last five meetings, drawing four times and losing once.
Alonso took over as Leverkusen head coach in October 2022, but he has yet to taste success against Stuttgart.
In four meetings with Stuttgart, Alonso has suffered three defeats and one draw
The Spaniard has expressed his disappointment with his team's performance in these matches, highlighting their inability to convert chances and mistakes at crucial moments.
In their most recent meeting, Leverkusen surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at home, a result that left Alonso particularly frustrated.
"Stuttgart is a team that always makes us suffer," Alonso said after the match
"We had the game under control, but we made some mistakes that cost us dearly. We need to be more clinical in front of goal and avoid making such errors if we want to win these games."
Despite his frustration with the results against Stuttgart, Alonso remains confident in his team's ability to turn things around.
Alonso believes that Leverkusen has the quality to overcome Stuttgart and achieve success in the Bundesliga.
"We have a good team with a lot of potential," Alonso said.
"We just need to find consistency in our performance and start converting our chances. I am confident that we can turn things around and start winning games again."
