Warriors Battling for National Field Hockey Championship After 21-Year Drought
East Stroudsburg University's Field Hockey Team Advances to Final Four
After a 21-year hiatus, the East Stroudsburg University field hockey team has returned to the Final Four and will compete for the national championship. The Warriors, who last reached the semifinals in 2001, earned their spot in this year's tournament by winning the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship and then defeating Bloomsburg University in the NCAA Division II semifinals.
The Warriors are led by a strong defense that has allowed just eight goals all season and has posted 13 shutouts. Junior goalkeeper Jaci Recchia has been a key part of that success, making 77 saves and earning a 0.67 goals-against average.
On the offensive side, the Warriors are paced by senior forward Olivia Breen, who has scored 15 goals and added eight assists this season. Junior midfielder Brooke Trusky has also been a major contributor with 10 goals and seven assists.
Warriors Face Tough Competition in Final Four
The Warriors will face a tough challenge in the Final Four, as they will take on the top-ranked team in the country, the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The Minutewomen are 20-1 this season and have won their last 13 games.
The Warriors will also face off against West Chester University, which is ranked No. 3 in the country. The Golden Rams are 19-1 this season and have won their last 10 games.
The fourth team in the Final Four is Assumption University, which is ranked No. 4 in the country. The Greyhounds are 18-2 this season and have won their last 11 games.
The Final Four will be held on November 18-20 at the Spooky Nook Sports Complex in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The Warriors will open the tournament against West Chester on November 18 at 11:00 AM.
Warriors Hope to End 21-Year Title Drought
The Warriors are hoping to end their 21-year title drought and bring home the national championship. They have a tough road ahead of them, but they are confident that they can get the job done.
Head coach Sandy Miller is proud of her team's accomplishments this season and is confident that they can continue their success in the Final Four.
"We've worked hard all season long to get to this point," Miller said. "We're excited to be in the Final Four and we're confident that we can win the national championship."
