On a rain-soaked day at the Seta Golf Club in Shiga, Japan, Ayaka Wakimoto maintained her one-stroke lead after the second round of the TOTO Japan Classic.
The 24-year-old Wakimoto fired a two-under-par 70 to finish the day at nine-under 135. She leads by one stroke over compatriot Hinako Shibuno, who carded a blistering eight-under-par 62 to move into contention.
Shibuno, the 2019 AIG Women's Open champion, made nine birdies and just one bogey in her round to vault up the leaderboard. She is now one stroke ahead of Thai star Ariya Jutanugarn, who shot an even-par 72 to stay in the hunt.
