FC Schalke 04 celebrated a clear 6:2 (3:1) victory in the friendly match against SSV Ulm 1846 on Tuesday (July 12). Rodrigo Zalazar (18th minute), Marius Bülter (22nd), Dominick Drexler (30th), Moritz Aydin (60th), Simon Terodde (72nd) and Tim Skarke (82nd) scored the goals for Königsblau in front of 2,679 spectators at the Donaustadion.
In pouring rain, Schalke took the lead early on through Rodrigo Zalazar, who converted a penalty awarded for a foul on Simon Terodde. Only four minutes later, Marius Bülter increased the lead after a nice combination via Dominick Drexler. Ulm goalkeeper Orhan Ademi was able to deflect a shot from Drexler, but Bülter was on the spot and headed in from close range.
The third goal was scored by Drexler himself. After a cross from Mehmet Can Aydin, the midfielder headed in from close range to make it 3-0. Ulm came back into the game thanks to Jannik Rochelt (33rd), who headed in a corner from Patrick Hobsch. However, the deficit remained at 2:3 at the break.
After the restart, both teams initially struggled to create clear-cut scoring chances. Moritz Aydin then increased Schalke's lead to 4:1 in the 60th minute with a low shot from 18 metres. Simon Terodde made it 5:1 twelve minutes later after a good combination via Drexler and Aydin. Shortly before the end, Tim Skarke scored the sixth goal for Schalke after a pass from Terodde.
In the 88th minute, Ulm's Jannik Rochelt was sent off with a red card for a foul on Aydin. In the end, Schalke celebrated a deserved 6:2 victory, which was never in danger after the early 3:0 lead. On Saturday (July 16), Königsblau will play their next friendly match against 1. FC Nürnberg.
