U of I Golf Course To Host Big Ten Cross Country Championships

University of Illinois to welcome conference meet to Atkins Golf Club for second time

Course will host both men's and women's races on Sunday, Oct. 29

The University of Illinois golf course will host the 2023 Big Ten cross country championships on Sunday, Oct. 29, with the women's 6,000-meter race beginning at 10 a.m. CT and the men's 8,000-meter race at 11 a.m. CT.

This marks the second time the Illini will host the meet at Atkins, with the previous visit coming in 2018.

The Fighting Illini women won their first Big Ten team title in 2018 on their home course, and they return a lineup that finished third at the NCAA Championships and won the NCAA Midwest Regional last fall.

On the men's side, Illinois is looking to get back to the NCAA Championships after just missing out a year ago. The Illini return All-Americans Jonathan Davis and Casey Schmale to lead the way, and they welcome a strong recruiting class that includes distance standout Seth Eilts.

The Big Ten cross country championships will be one of the biggest sporting events in Champaign-Urbana this fall, and it's sure to be a great day of racing. The course is challenging but fair, and the atmosphere will be electric.

Tickets for the meet will go on sale in September, and more information will be available on the Illinois athletics website as it becomes available.
