Scottish Comedian Janey Godley Dies in Hospital Aged 63
Tributes pour in for beloved funny woman and cancer campaigner
Comedian and writer Janey Godley has died in hospital at the age of 63, her family has confirmed.
The much-loved Scottish star had been battling ovarian cancer since 2021 and underwent a hysterectomy in 2022.
She regularly updated her fans on her health via social media, charting her cancer journey with honesty and humour.
Godley was a vocal campaigner for cancer awareness and encouraged women to get checked for the disease.
She also used her platform to raise money for cancer charities, including Macmillan Cancer Support and Cancer Research UK.
In a statement, her family said: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Janey Godley. Janey died peacefully in her sleep this morning at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, with her family by her side. She was 63 years old.
"Janey was a force of nature, a hilarious comedian, a loving mother, a doting grandmother, and a wonderful friend."
"Her energy and spirit were infectious, and she brought joy to everyone who knew her.
"We are heartbroken by her loss, but we will cherish the memories of her forever."
Fellow comedians and celebrities have paid tribute to Godley, praising her talent and her tireless work for cancer awareness.
Comedian Kevin Bridges said: "Janey was a one-of-a-kind talent, a brilliant comedian, and a true friend. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her."
Actor and comedian Elaine C Smith said: "Janey was a force of nature, a whirlwind of energy, and a true one-off. She was a brilliant comedian, a wonderful writer, and a tireless campaigner for cancer awareness. She will be deeply missed."
Godley's death is a huge loss to the comedy world and to the fight against cancer.
