Scotland Team With 14 Debuts See Off Fiji
Edinburgh, Scotland- The Scotland national rugby union team defeated the Fiji national rugby union team 28-12 on Saturday at Murrayfield Stadium in the Autumn Nations Series.
The match was a tale of two halves, with Scotland dominating the first half and Fiji the second. Scotland scored 14 unanswered points in the first half, with tries from hooker Grant Stewart, hooker George Turner and two penalties from Blair Kinghorn.
Fiji came out firing in the second half and scored two quick tries, one from winger Setareki Tuicuvu and one from flanker Mesulame Kunavula. Scotland managed to hold on for the 28-12 victory, with Kinghorn adding another two penalties to his tally.
It was a day of milestones for Scotland, as Zander Fagerson made his 50th appearance for his country and D'Arcy Rae made his debut.
Scotland Head Coach Gregor Townsend said: "I'm really pleased with the performance today. We were very good in the first half, and even though Fiji came back strong in the second half, we managed to hold on for the win.
"It was great to see so many young players making their debuts today, and they all showed what they can do.
"We're now looking ahead to our next match against New Zealand next week, and we're confident that we can put in another good performance."
Fiji Head Coach Vern Cotter said: "I'm disappointed with the result today, but I'm proud of the effort the boys put in.
"We made too many mistakes in the first half, but we came back strong in the second half and showed what we can do.
"We're looking ahead to our next match against Georgia next week, and we're confident that we can get a win."
