Raith Rovers 2, Ayr United 0 as Honest Men suffer under the lights in Fife
Raith Rovers strengthened their position in the cinch Championship play-off places with a comfortable victory over Ayr United at Stark's Park.
Goals either side of the break from Lewis Vaughan and Dylan Tait condemned the Honest Men to a fourth consecutive defeat on the road.
The hosts took the lead in the 27th minute through Vaughan, who nodded in Regan Hendry's corner from close range.
Tait doubled Rovers' advantage six minutes after the restart, firing home from the edge of the box after being teed up by Ethan Ross.
Ayr boss Lee Bullen made two changes to the side that started the defeat by Inverness Caledonian Thistle last weekend.
Ross Doohan came in for the suspended Aidan McAdams in goal, while Josh Mullin replaced the injured Tomi Adeloye in attack.
Raith boss Ian Murray made one change to the team that drew with Hamilton Academical, with Vaughan replacing Dario Zanatta.
The hosts started the brighter of the two sides and took the lead midway through the first half when Vaughan headed home from a corner.
Ayr responded well to going behind and came close to equalizing on the half-hour mark when Mullin's shot was well saved by Jamie MacDonald.
The visitors continued to press for an equalizer after the break, but they were caught on the counter-attack and Tait made it 2-0 with a fine finish.
Ayr pushed for a goal to get back into the game, but they were unable to find a way past MacDonald.
The defeat leaves Ayr in eighth place in the cinch Championship, while Raith Rovers move up to fourth.
