New Jersey Devils Shut Out in Sloppy Game to Calgary Flames, 0-3
Tough night in Jersey
The New Jersey Devils dropped their third straight game on Thursday night, falling to the Calgary Flames 3-0 at the Prudential Center in Newark.
Akira Schmid started in net for the Devils and made 34 saves on 37 shots. However, he was unable to stop a shot from Elias Lindholm in the second period, which gave the Flames a 1-0 lead, and a shot from Mikael Backlund less than two minutes later that put them up 2-0.
The Devils pulled Schmid with over five minutes remaining in the third period. But despite having a 6-on-4 power play for more than two minutes, they were unable to score, and an empty net goal by Nazem Kadri sealed their fate.
Missed opportunities
The Devils had their chances to win the game on Thursday night, but they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.
They went 0-for-4 on the power play and were outshot by the Flames 37-25. They also had several good scoring chances in the third period, but they were unable to put the puck in the net.
Sloppy play
The Devils also played a sloppy game on Thursday night.
They turned the puck over several times, which led to scoring chances for the Flames. They also took several penalties, which gave the Flames a chance to rest and regroup.
What's next?
The Devils will be back in action on Saturday night when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Prudential Center.
The Penguins are one of the best teams in the NHL, so the Devils will need to play their best game in order to have a chance to win.
