National Weather Service Issues Red Flag Warning for Pennsylvania Amid Wildfires
State Wildfire Danger Remains High
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Red Flag Warning for much of Pennsylvania due to ongoing wildfires and extremely dry conditions.
Current Wildfire Conditions
As of 1 p.m. EST, there are 10 active wildfires burning across the state, primarily in the central and eastern regions.
The largest fire is the Caldwell Creek Fire in Somerset County, which has burned over 2,000 acres and is currently only 20% contained.
Red Flag Warning Details
The Red Flag Warning is in effect until 8 p.m. EST for all of central and eastern Pennsylvania, including the cities of Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh.
During this time, extremely dry conditions, strong winds, and low humidity will create a heightened fire danger.
Impacts and Precautions
Residents in affected areas are urged to take precautions and follow fire safety guidelines.
This includes avoiding any outdoor burning, being cautious with campfires, and keeping vehicles off dry grass.
Be prepared for potential evacuations and have an emergency plan in place.
Outlook
The NWS predicts that the Red Flag Warning will remain in effect throughout the afternoon and evening.
Conditions are expected to improve slightly overnight, but the wildfire danger will remain elevated in the coming days.
