More than 40 percent of journalists close to the Greens
Media professionals overwhelmingly see the Green Party as their dream coalition partner
Almost half of German media professionals would vote Green
**Berlin, January 24, 2023** - According to a survey by the University of Leipzig, more than 40 percent of journalists in Germany feel close to the Green Party. The left-wing party, which has been part of the federal government since December 2021, is thus the preferred coalition partner of the media professionals.
The study, which was published in the journal "The Media", surveyed a total of 1,001 journalists from newspapers, magazines, radio and television. 42.3 percent of the respondents stated that they feel close to the Greens. This puts the Greens clearly ahead of the other parties: The SPD comes in second with 23.1 percent, followed by the CDU/CSU (16.7 percent), the FDP (10.9 percent) and the AfD (6.9 percent).
The Greens are particularly popular among young journalists: 52.4 percent of respondents under the age of 30 feel close to the party. Among journalists over 50, on the other hand, the Greens are only the second most popular party (34.6 percent).
The study also found that journalists are generally critical of the media. 63.2 percent of the respondents believe that the media are too close to the powerful. 58.7 percent criticize that the media do not pay enough attention to social issues.
The results of the study show that the Green Party enjoys great sympathy among German journalists. This is likely due to the fact that the Greens are seen as a party that is committed to environmental protection and social justice. However, the study also shows that journalists are generally critical of the media. This criticism should be taken seriously and should lead to improvements in journalistic work.
