LPGA Season Resumes at Toto Japan Classic
Statistically one of the strongest fields of the 2023 LPGA season
The LPGA Tour makes its long awaited return from a five-week break as the players head to Japan for the Toto Japan Classic, the second tournament in the LPGA's Asia Swing. The tournament will be played at Seta Golf Course in Shiga, Japan and will be the first time the LPGA has been played in Japan since 2019. The field is one of the strongest of the 2023 season with 19 of the top 20 players in the world in the field, including world number one Lydia Ko, who is the defending champion.
Ko seeks to defend on a course with a storied history
Ko will be looking to defend her title on a course that has been completely renovated in 2021. The course is a par 72 and will play at 6,655 yards. It was originally designed by Seiichi Inoue in 1973 and has hosted the Toto Japan Classic since 1999.
Stacked field of the world’s best golfers set to compete
The field this week is arguably the strongest of the 2023 LPGA season, with all but four of the top 20 players in the world in the field. This includes world number one Lydia Ko, who is the defending champion, as well as world number two Nelly Korda and world number three Brooke Henderson. Other top players in the field include Atthaya Thitikul, Lexi Thompson, Minjee Lee, and Madelene Sagstrom.
