LOSC Lille Fires Paulo Fonseca, Names Rémi Garde as Interim Manager
Disappointing Start to the Season Leads to Managerial Change in Ligue 1
LOSC Lille has announced the departure of manager Paulo Fonseca and the appointment of Rémi Garde as interim manager until the end of the season.
The decision comes after Lille's disappointing start to the Ligue 1 season, with the team currently sitting in 10th place after 15 matches. Lille has won only five of their matches so far this season, with three draws and seven losses.
Fonseca joined Lille in the summer of 2022 after a successful spell at AS Roma. However, he has struggled to replicate that success in France, with Lille's performances on the pitch failing to meet expectations.
Garde, a former French international, has been appointed as interim manager until the end of the season. He previously managed Lyon, Aston Villa, and Montreal Impact.
Lille's next match is against Reims on Wednesday, February 1.
