King's Cup: Ronaldo misses penalty as Al Nassr exits; Al Ittihad and Al Hilal advance
Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr knocked out of Saudi Arabia's King's Cup after penalty miss
Cristiano Ronaldo's Saudi Arabian adventure has got off to a disappointing start as his new club Al Nassr was knocked out of the King's Cup on Thursday after a penalty shootout defeat to Al Ittihad.
Ronaldo, who joined Al Nassr in a world-record deal last month, missed a penalty in the shootout and Al Ittihad went on to win 5-3 on spot-kicks.
Al Nassr had taken the lead in the match through Anderson Talisca's goal in the first half, but Al Ittihad equalized through Abderrazak Hamdallah in the second half.
Al Ittihad and Al Hilal advance to the semi-finals
Al Ittihad will now face Al Hilal in the semi-finals of the King's Cup. Al Hilal, the defending champions, advanced to the last four with a 2-0 win over Al Faisaly.
The other semi-final will be contested between Al Feiha and Al Shabab.
Ronaldo's penalty miss
Ronaldo's penalty miss was a rare miss for the Portuguese star, who is considered one of the greatest goalscorers of all time.
The miss will likely add to the pressure on Ronaldo, who is still looking to score his first goal for Al Nassr.
Ronaldo has now missed two penalties in his last three matches for Al Nassr.
Al Nassr's disappointing start to the season
Al Nassr's exit from the King's Cup is a disappointing result for the club, which has invested heavily in Ronaldo.
Al Nassr is now out of both domestic cups and is struggling in the league, where they are currently fourth.
Ronaldo's arrival was expected to help Al Nassr challenge for trophies, but so far, the team has failed to live up to expectations.
