Ipswich Town legend and passionate ‘superfan’ to be recognised in remembrance fixture
Community to unite at Portman Road to remember much-loved supporter
Augustus ‘Gus’ Eagle will be forever remembered by the Ipswich Town community, thanks to a special remembrance fixture at Portman Road.
The superfan, who became a familiar face at Portman Road, passed away in February, aged 82. His infectious passion for the Blues resonated with fans and players alike, with celebrity fans such as Ed Sheeran also paying tribute.
His family and the Club have now joined forces to create a lasting tribute to the much-loved supporter, with a remembrance fixture set to be played at Portman Road on Saturday, July 29 (ko 3pm).
The match will see a Town Legends side take on a team of former players from Gus’s era at the Club, including Mick Mills, John Wark and Kevin Beattie. All proceeds from the game will be donated to local charities.
Gus’s son, Mark Eagle, said: “Dad was a lifelong Town fan and his passion for the Club was something that we all shared as a family. Although he may be gone, our memories of him and his love for the Blues live on.
“We are incredibly grateful to Ipswich Town for organising this remembrance fixture in his honour. I know he would have been so touched by this gesture and the love and support that the Club and the fans have shown us at this difficult time.”
Tickets for the remembrance fixture are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions, and are available to purchase from the Ipswich Town ticket office.
