"Im Moment 100 Prozent": Rolfes geht von Xabi Alonsos Verbleib aus
Bayer Leverkusen's sporting director, Simon Rolfes, is confident that Xabi Alonso will remain at the club beyond this season.
The former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich midfielder has been linked with a move away from the Bundesliga side, but Rolfes is adamant that he will not be leaving.
"I am 100 percent convinced that Xabi Alonso will stay with us," Rolfes told reporters.
Alonso, 37, joined Leverkusen in 2019 and has been a key player for the club, making 63 appearances in all competitions.
He has also been capped 114 times by Spain and was part of the team that won the World Cup in 2010 and the European Championship in 2008 and 2012.
Rolfes' comments will come as a relief to Leverkusen fans who are keen to keep Alonso at the club.
The Spaniard is a popular figure among the supporters and his experience and quality would be a big loss if he were to leave.
Leverkusen are currently sixth in the Bundesliga table and are in contention for a place in next season's Champions League.
Alonso's experience and leadership could be vital in helping the club achieve their目標.
