Hana Wakimoto Maintains Lead After Second Round of LPGA Japan Tournament
Wakimoto Shoots 67 to Hold Onto Top Spot
Hana Wakimoto carded a 5-under 67 in the second round of the LPGA Japan Classic to maintain her one-stroke lead at the halfway stage.
The 22-year-old Japanese star birdied the first three holes of her round and added another on the seventh to make the turn in 32.
She picked up another shot on the 12th hole but dropped a stroke on the 15th before parring the last three holes to finish the day on 10-under 134.
Chasing Pack Closing In
Wakimoto is one stroke ahead of compatriot Ayaka Furue, who shot a 68 on Friday, with Mao Saigo a further stroke back in third place after a 67.
World number one Ko Jin-young is lurking just four strokes off the lead in a tie for fourth place after a 69, while former world number one Lydia Ko is a further stroke back in a tie for sixth place.
Wakimoto Looking for First LPGA Japan Classic Title
Wakimoto is seeking her first LPGA Japan Classic title, having finished runner-up in 2021.
She will be hoping to continue her good form in the third round on Saturday, when she will be paired with Furue and Saigo.
