Hana Wakimoto Leads the Way After Second Round of LPGA Japan Tournament
Wakimoto Maintains Impressive Form
Hana Wakimoto has reinforced her status as the one to beat in the LPGA Japan Classic. Following a standout performance in the first round, Wakimoto has continued to impress in the second round, maintaining her lead atop the leaderboard.
Wakimoto's second round was marked by consistency and precision. She carded a 3-under 69, highlighted by four birdies and just one bogey. Her steady play allowed her to increase her overall score to 8-under 136, giving her a one-shot advantage over her nearest rivals.
Chasing the Leader
A trio of players are hot on Wakimoto's heels, trailing by just one stroke. South Korea's Lee Jeong-eun, Thailand's Atthaya Thitikul, and Japan's Ai Suzuki all shot impressive 4-under 68s in the second round.
Lee, a rising star in the LPGA, has been in excellent form this season. She is seeking her first victory of the year and will be eager to challenge Wakimoto in the final round.
Thitikul, the reigning LPGA Player of the Year, is another player to watch. The Thai sensation has already notched up two wins in 2023 and will be determined to add another trophy to her collection.
Other Contenders
Lurking just behind the leading pack is a group of players who remain in contention. Nasa Hataoka, the 2021 Japan Classic winner, is two strokes off the lead after a 3-under 69 in the second round.
Hinako Shibuno, the 2019 Women's British Open champion, is also within striking distance, three strokes behind Wakimoto after shooting a 2-under 70.
