Formula 1: Fernando Alonso treated for infection but will race in Sao Paulo
Alonso to start Sao Paulo Grand Prix after precautionary stay in hospital
Alpine driver Fernando Alonso has been cleared to race in the Sao Paulo Grand Prix this weekend after being treated for an infection in hospital.
The Spaniard was admitted to hospital on Thursday after suffering from severe abdominal pain and was diagnosed with an infection. He underwent treatment and was released from hospital on Friday morning.
Alonso said he is "feeling much better" and is "ready to race" in Brazil.
"I want to thank the doctors and nurses at the hospital for their excellent care," he said.
"I am also grateful to my team for their support and understanding."
Alonso is currently ninth in the drivers' standings with 71 points.
The Sao Paulo Grand Prix takes place on Sunday at the Interlagos circuit.
