FC Schaffhausen has strengthened its defense with the signing of center-back Roy Gelmi from FC Aarau. The 28-year-old Swiss defender brings a wealth of experience to the Schaffhausen squad, having made over 150 appearances in the Swiss Challenge League.
Gelmi is known for his physical presence, aerial ability, and strong tackling. He is also a composed passer and can contribute to the team's build-up play. His arrival is expected to provide much-needed stability to Schaffhausen's backline, which has conceded 25 goals in 18 league matches this season.
Schaffhausen manager Murat Yakin expressed his delight at the signing, saying, "Roy is a very experienced player who will bring a lot of quality to our team. He is a strong defender who reads the game well and is good in the air. We are very happy to have him join us."
Gelmi is excited about the new challenge and eager to help Schaffhausen improve its defensive record. "I am very happy to be here," he said. "Schaffhausen is a great club with a lot of potential. I want to help the team achieve its goals and I am looking forward to playing in front of the fans."
Gelmi's Career and Achievements
Gelmi began his career with FC Winterthur, where he made his professional debut in 2013. He spent four seasons with Winterthur before joining FC Aarau in 2017. With Aarau, he won the Swiss Challenge League title in 2019 and helped the team reach the Swiss Cup final in 2021.
Gelmi has also represented Switzerland at the youth international level, playing for the U-19 and U-21 teams. He was part of the Swiss squad that won the 2012 UEFA European Under-19 Championship.
