Boise State University's cross country team wins the ACC Championship Game in overtime against Florida State University. In a thrilling match, the Broncos emerged victorious with a score of 27-24. Led by standout performances from several key runners, Boise State secured their first conference title since joining the ACC in 2023.
The ACC Championship Game was held at the Virginia Tech Cross Country Course in Blacksburg, Virginia. The race featured top-ranked teams from across the conference, including Florida State, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech. Boise State entered the race as the underdog but quickly proved they were a force to be reckoned with.
The Broncos took an early lead in the race, with several runners placing in the top ten. Florida State, however, remained close behind, led by their own talented squad of runners. As the race progressed, the two teams traded the lead several times, keeping the outcome uncertain until the very end.
In the final stretch of the race, Boise State's top runner, junior Emily Venters, made a decisive move. She surged ahead of the pack and maintained her lead, crossing the finish line first. Her victory gave Boise State a narrow advantage over Florida State, who had placed two runners in the top three.
With the individual race victory, Venters also secured the team victory for Boise State. The Broncos' overall team score of 27 was just three points ahead of Florida State's 24. It was a hard-fought victory that capped off a remarkable season for the Boise State cross country team.
The victory marks Boise State's first ACC Championship in cross country since joining the conference in 2023. It is also the team's first conference title since winning the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championship in 2021.
The Broncos' success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team and its coaching staff. Led by head coach Corey Ihmels, Boise State has quickly risen to prominence in the ACC, proving that they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of collegiate cross country.
With their ACC Championship victory, Boise State has earned an automatic berth in the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. The national championships will be held on November 18th at the Oklahoma State University Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
