Australia bids farewell as world's largest captive croc, Cassius, dies at 110
A true giant has passed at the impressive age of 110, Cassius was not just the world's largest captive crocodile
Cassius, the world's largest captive crocodile and a Northern Territory icon, has died at the age of 110 at the Adelaide River, 150 kilometres south of Darwin.
The 5.48 metre crocodile was known for his immense size and imposing presence, and was the star attraction at the Adelaide River Queen Cruises.
General Manager of the popular tourist attraction Scott Salisbury said Cassius was the heart of the cruise's operations.
"Cassius has reigned supreme as the largest captive crocodile in the world for over 20 years and has been a huge drawcard for the Adelaide River Queen," he said.
"He captured people's imaginations all over the world and brought joy to millions of people.
"He will be sorely missed by so many." Tourist Cameron Bryan said he was lucky enough to see Cassius up close.
