Runnin' Rebels Win 10th SEC Title

The Ole Miss men's and women's cross country teams claimed their 10th and seventh Southeastern Conference titles, respectively, Friday at the SEC Championships hosted by Alabama at the Harry Pritchett Running Park.

Both teams were led by individual champions as senior Mario Garcia Romo and sophomore Abby Nichols paced the men's and women's fields, respectively.

Mario Garcia Romo Wins SEC Championship

Romo led the men's race from start to finish, claiming his first SEC individual title in the 8,000-meter event.

The senior from Queretaro, Mexico, finished with a time of 23:39.4, nearly 14 seconds ahead of runner-up Eliud Kipsang of Alabama.

The individual title is the second of Romo's career, joining his 2021 NCAA South Region title.

Abby Nichols Wins SEC Championship

Nichols also led the women's race from start to finish, claiming her first SEC individual title in the 6,000-meter event.

The sophomore from Germantown, Tennessee, finished with a time of 19:58.1, more than eight seconds ahead of runner-up Celera Rohrs of Arkansas.

The individual title is the first of Nichols' career.

SEC Championships Team Results

In addition to the individual titles, the Ole Miss men's and women's teams also claimed the team titles.

The men's team claimed its 10th SEC title in the last 11 years, while the women's team claimed its seventh title in the last nine years.
