Alaves coach Luis Garcia faces former side Mallorca
Garcia hoping for more success against former club on Friday
Alaves coach Luis Garcia will be hoping to continue his good record against former club Mallorca when the two sides meet in La Liga on Friday.
Garcia, who played for Mallorca for four years between 2004 and 2008, has won three of his four meetings with the islanders as a coach.
The 49-year-old led Deportivo La Coruna to a 2-0 victory over Mallorca in 2014, and then oversaw a 1-0 win and a 2-1 win for Alaves in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
Garcia will be hoping for more of the same on Friday, as Alaves look to build on their impressive start to the season. The Basque side have won two of their first three games, and are currently sixth in the table.
Mallorca, meanwhile, have had a more difficult start to the campaign. Vicente Moreno's side have lost two of their first three games, and are currently 17th in the table.
However, Mallorca will be buoyed by their recent victory over Real Madrid. The islanders stunned the European champions with a 1-0 win at the Bernabeu last weekend.
Garcia is well aware of the threat that Mallorca pose, and he will be demanding a strong performance from his players on Friday.
"Mallorca are a good team, and they have some very good players," Garcia said. "They showed against Real Madrid that they can compete with anyone on their day."
"We will need to be at our best to get a result on Friday. We will need to be compact in defence, and we will need to take our chances when we get them."
The match between Alaves and Mallorca will be played at the Mendizorrotza Stadium on Friday, September 10. Kick-off is at 8pm CEST.
